ConnectED - National
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with JTB for ConnectED. This summer virtual program introduces high school students to the legal field with attorney panels, presentations on different practice areas of law, discussions on the role of law in current movements, and inspires students through the stories of judges and their rise to the role. Our volunteers are essential in making our programs successful. Whether volunteering for a live or recorded session, expect to become a mentor to one or two JTB scholars!

Volunteer Opportunities
  • Judge Spotlight: This LIVE Zoom session features a conversation with a judge that highlights their life and career. Students look to the judges as role models and want to know more about their early life, the people who inspired them, the steps they took to become a judge, and what it's like to be a judge. For this session, a Judge would join a zoom call with JTB Scholars, discuss their journey to the bunch and answer scholar questions.
  • Rise Up: To prepare students to curate their own social justice awareness projects, students will participate in live Zoom sessions throughout the week to learn the legal context of current-day social justice movements. This speaker should be able to present on cases that have helped to propel or inhibit movements (i.e. Loving v. Virginia for the Civil Rights Movement.) Presenters should be able to provoke critical thinking skills, provide a safe space for students to share their thoughts, and guide the conversation in a way that motivates students. Volunteers can choose to present on one of the following topics or can propose a movement to JTB when preparing for the session.
    1. Me Too or Times Up
    2. Black Lives Matter
    3. LGBTQ Equality Movement
    4. Gun Violence
    5. Climate Justice

  • Law School Admissions Process: High school students are looking to know more about what administrators look for when admitting students into law school and how they can prepare early for the process. The pre-recorded presentation should be 45-60 minutes long and submitted to JTB June 02, 2024.
  • Financial LiteracyIntroduce our scholars to basic financial literacy skills to help them make responsible financial decisions. The pre-recorded presentation should be 45-60 minutes long and submitted to JTB June 02, 2024. The presentation can include some of the following topics:

  • Topics in Law: Help students understand what it's like to practice law in the real world! Discuss your practice area of law and what it entails. This lesson may include an exploration of a relevant case to help students understand the practice. The pre-recorded presentation should be about 45-60 minutes long and submitted to JTB by June 2, 2024.
